Riots Score Early, Beat Raiders
After dealing with injuries and sickness most of the season, the Orono boys basketball team is getting stronger at just the right time with the tournament lurking around the corner.Jason Coleman's Red Riots took a commanding early lead and showed a balanced attack on their way to a 52-40 win over the Washington Academy Raiders. Orono opened the game with a 17-2 run and never looked back. Nate Desisto and Damien Heeger got the ball rolling as Heeger drained a pair of three pointers and Desisto used a couple drives to the basket to jump start the offense. Desisto, playing just his fourth game of the season after a stress fracture of the foot would finish with a game high 17 points while Heeger added 11. Keenan Collett was the third player in double digits with 12 on the night.
Orono's defense held what is considered the best combo in Eastern Maine class C in check with Gage Feeney scoring just 11 points, well below his average of 24. Austin Seavey who averages a double-double was limited to 6 points.
Both teams now stand at 10-6 on the season with two games remaining in the regular season.
