South Portland's Jon Gillies showed Team USA coaches he is ready to be the guy between the pipes when the World Junior Tournament begins Thursday in Sweden. Gillies made 38 saves in an exhibition game against Finland and USA won 3-2.

Among those 38 saves, Gillies stopped a penalty shot and five point blank shots in the final minute to preserve the win.

The World Junior team is made up of college and junior league players under the age of 20.

Gillies is a sophomore at Providence College. He played on the USA team a year ago but was not the starting goalie.

He is one of three goalies on this year's roster and will likely be in net when Team USA opens tournament play Thursday against the Czech Republic.
