Smith, Coyotes Begin Effort To Three-Peat
The two-time defending state Class B champion Old Town Coyotes softball team begins the road to three-peat this week.
Like every other high school softball team in the state, the season begins in the gym with tryouts and then practices.
7th year coach Jenn Plourde and her Coyotes return standout senior pitcher McKenna Smith. She struck out 19 batters in last year's 2-0 state game win over Fryeburg Academy. Smith won PVC Player and Pitcher of the Year. Plourde was named Coach of the Year. The Coyotes finished 2017 with an 18-2 record.
In 2016 Old Town defeated York for the Class B state title.
Coach Plourde will need to replace a couple of key postions, including catcher, because of graduation but feels the returning core players gives them a great chance to have another great spring.
The new-look Class B North Region includes 21 teams this year, including the Brewer Witches who move from the Class A ranks.
The Coyotes open the season April 16th at Orono
