A combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to hit the Bangor area Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service, which late Monday issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the region.

The updated forecast calls for 2 to 5 inches of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday. Rain could be heavy at times through Wednesday evening. A travel advisory is also in effect for the Wednesday morning commute as snow, sleet and a glaze of ice is expected to create slippery roads.

North of Bangor, more snow is expected, with 6 to 10 inches expected for northern Penobscot and Aroostook counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for those areas Tuesday night until noon on Wednesday.
