The Southern Aroostook girls' basketball team downed Vinalhaven 54-37 Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center to win its first Class D state title since 1995.

Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Warriors as the team handed Vinalhaven its first loss of the season. Freshman center Kacy Daggett scored a team-high 12 points for Southern Aroostook. Junior Kassidy Mathers chipped in 11 points, and sophomore Sydney Brewer and junior Kylie Vining each scored 10 points.

The Vikings were led by senior center Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes, who scored a game-high 17 points.

Southern Aroostook, the north region's top seed, finishes the season at 20-2.

Vinalhaven, the No. 1 seed out of the south region, finishes at 21-1.
