A brilliant performance from Chris Sale on the mound and hitting help up and down the lineup helped the Red Sox beat Kansas City 8-3 last night. And, the win moves the Sox into first place in the AL East.

Sale gave up an early solo home run and then settled in. Until he ran out of gas in the 9th inning, Sale retired 19 consecutive hitters. For the night, Sale pitched 8.1 innings, giving up three runs and four hits. He struck out 10 and walked just one. Sale is now 9-3 with a 2.85 ERA.

On offense, everybody except Hanley Ramirez had at least one hit. Chris Young had three and a RBI. Xander Bogaearts and Sandy Leon each had two RBI.

Meanwhile the Yankees lost for a seventh straight time and the 40-31 Sox move into first place in the division.

Game three and the final game of the roadtrip for the Sox is an afternoon game today at 2pm.
