Sox Say Cashman’s Comments Didn’t Motivate Sweep Of Yanks

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox insist they weren't motivated by Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who cast doubt on the quality of their record.

Cashman said before the four-game series that he wondered 'what their record would be if they weren't playing us.'

The Red Sox responded with a sweep that extended their AL East lead to 9 1/2 games.
