A man charged with murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend was spotted in Guilford Wednesday night, according to Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.

Robert Burton has been on the run since Stephanie Gebo’s body was discovered in her Parkman home on June 5.

McCausalnd said in a news release that a man reported seeing Burton stepping out of the woods onto a snowmobile trail around 5:45 p.m.

The sighting occurred along the ITS snowmobile trail off Route 15 near Lowes Bridge.

The man said Burton, who was wearing camouflage clothing and carrying a dark colored backpack, quickly stepped back into the woods when he realized he had been spotted.

State police spent several hours searching the area last night but Burton was not found.

Burton is considered armed and dangerous. Area residents are urged to lock their homes and vehicles until the suspect is apprehended.
