State Police Confirm Carmel Incident is Officer-Involved Shooting

State Police, Penobscot County Sheriff's office personnel, and other members of law enforcement have been on the scene of an incident since around 9:30 this morning. Now, Public Safety spokesman confirms it's an officer-involved shooting.

Details are still few at this hour about exactly what happened on Route 2 in Carmel. Police have had Route 2, near the municipal building, closed since this morning. One official told WLBZ-TV that residents in the 9 homes along the closed portion of the road were asked, at one point, to stay in their homes.

Now, Steve McCausland says the incident is a police-involved shooting involving a Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputy. However the details of that shooting have not been released. We'll update this story as more details become available.
