As the 2016-17 high school basketball season begins tonight around the state of Maine you can't help but wonder what basketball history might be set this time around.

With that in mind, how about a little trip down history lane in high school hoops...

2007 (10 Years Ago):  The Dexter girls won their 5th straight Eastern Maine Championship...Ellsworth's Corey Dewitt scored 52 points in a triple overtime tourney game...The Waterville girls won their first of three consecutive state titles.

1997 (20 Years Ago):  The Presque Isle girls won their last Class A state title, beating Portland 77- 40. Kim Condon scored 41 points in that game. A week earlier in the in the Eastern Maine Tourney, legend has Condon sleeping with a potato on her ankle to help restore a badly sprained ankle.

1992 (25 Years Ago):  Bangor and South Portland boys played an epic 5 overtime game for the Class A state championship. The Red Riots finally won 81-79. Remember these names...John Tennett, John Wassenbergh, Bert Rich, Mark Reed.

1982 (35 Years Ago):  #10 Hampden boys entered the tourney with a 6-10 record. The Broncos won a play-in game, then won a quarterfinal, semi-final and the Eastern Maine title. The Broncos lost to Gorham in the states.

1972 (45 Years Ago):  The #1 ranked and unbeaten Class A Houlton Shiretowners came to the Bangor Auditorium and got upset by #8 seed Bangor 51-50 in the quarterfinal round...The Jonesport-Beals boys won their third of what would be five straight state championships.

1967 (50 Years Ago):  Your state championship teams...Old Town in Class A, Orono in Class B, Brownville Junction in Class C and Sherman in Class D. An Eastern Maine sweep!
