The top-seed Hermon Hawks had all they could handle from the No. 9 seed Washington Academy Raiders in the final boys quarterfinal at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The Raiders earned an invitation to the tournament after winning a prelim game. But they controlled much of the quarterfinal match-up with Hermon before the Hawks were finally able to pull ahead in the final minutes and edge out the Raiders 55-51.

Isaac Varney led the Hawks with 25 points, including tow key free throws with three seconds left to make it a two-possession contest. Varney was named player of the game.

Keenan Marseille, a junior, added 17 points for Hermon.

For Washington Academy, Kyle Case had 15 points.

Hermon will face the Orono Red Riots, who beat Presque Isle earlier in the day.
