UMaine goalie Martin Ouellette is one of 18 candidates for the inaugural Mike Richter Award, which will honor the top goalie in NCAA hockey. The winner will be announced during the Frozen Four Event in April.

The award is named after former University of Wisconsin goaltender Mike Richter who went on to have a great NHL career with the New York Rangers, including winning the Stanley Cup in 1994.

The Herb Brooks Foundation and Let's Play Hockey are sponsors of the new award.

Also on the list of 18 goalies is Providence College netminder Jon Gillies. He is from South Portland.
