The UMaine Black Bears drop their home opener to Boston University 78-69 and fall to 0-5 on the season.

The opener at the Cross Center in Bangor got off to a great start for Maine. An early 9-2 lead but then the offense started to struggle. BU ended up shooting 60% from the field and led at the half 41-28.

The Terriers kept the Bears at arms length throughout the 2nd half. In the final moments, a Dennis Ashley three-pointer got Maine within five points. But BU finished on a 7-3 run to get the win.

Aaron Calixte led the Bears with 22 but also had nine turnovers. Andrew Fleming had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Terriers had four players in double digit scoring.

The Black Bears now head out on the road to play Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon. BU improves to 1-3.
