A brand new season begins tonight for UMaine basketball teams as they hit the road for games at UConn and Harvard.Richard Baron's Bears will be at Harvard for their 13th match-up with the Crimson. The Bears will be looking for their first season opening road win since 2005 when they beat Rider. Maine has an all-time record of 29-22 in season openers.

This will be the start of the most difficult schedule since Baron took the reigns of the program which has been geared to a team that returns all 5 starters from last years team that finished 23-9. Maine also returns its top 8 scorers that include senior Liz Wood who underwent knee surgery in the off-season, and Sigi Koizar who led the team in scoring with 14 points per game.

Bob Walsh enters his season season as the men's coach and will not be able to ease into their season as they open at UConn who is ranked #20 in the nation.

This will be the 100th meeting between the two programs with the Huskies leading the all-time series 83-16. UConn has won 12 straight against the Bears with Maine's last win coming in 1978.

The bears return 4 starters from last season and add 8 new players to the roster. They will be tasked with trying to improve on last years 3-27 record which included a 1-17 mark on the road.

Kevin Little returns as last years leading scorer with an average of 13 points per game. Til Gloger put in 12 per game a year ago and will be called upon to lead the front court.
