USM Baseball Plays At National Championship

The University of Southern Maine Huskies begin the quest for the Division Three College World Series championship today In Appleton, Wisconsin. The first round opponent is Milsaps College from Mississippi.

Ed Flaherty's Huskies have a record of 42-8. USM first won their Little East Conference title then went on to win the New England NCAA regional played in Harwich, Massachusetts.

Freshman pitcher Shyler Scates(Erskine Academy) makes the start in game one.

USM roster is filled with many former Maine high school star players such as Sam Dexter(Messalonskee HS). He is LEC rookie of the year.

Outfielder Tucker White(Deerfield,NH) is the D3baseball.com national player of the year.

USM head coach Ed Flaherty is in his 28th year and has won over 800 game, including two national titles (1991, 1997).
