University of Southern Maine baseball coach Ed Flaherty goes for his 900th career win today when the Huskies play the Bates College Bobcats.

Yesterday, USM beat Colby College 7-5 which put Flaherty and his Huskies at the 20 win mark (20-9) for the 30th consecutive year.

Flaherty took over USM baseball in 1986  and finished 23-14 in that first season. Since then the Huskies have gone on to play in 8 Division III College World Series, including the past two years. USM won the national championship in 1991 and 1997.

Flaherty's overall record is 899-619.

USM is currently in a first place tie with UMass Dartmouth in the Little East Conference with 7-3 records. The teams will meet for two games on the last weekend of conference play.

The Huskies have spent the much of the spring in the top-25 in the national D3Baseball.com poll. This week USM is just outside the top-25 at #27.
