When Tom Brady and the players union filed an appeal to the NFL for his 4-game suspension the league had 10 days to hold an appeal hearing, or did they? The Associated Press is reporting that the hearing will not take place Wednesday which is the end of the 10 day period. The AP is citing sources that said it would be impossible at this point since a date has not formally been announced, and that it is possible for the league and union to agree an extension of the deadline.

ESPN Boston reporter Mike Reiss however says his interpretation of the deadline in the collective bargaining agreement is that the NFL has 10 days after the appeal is filed to set the date and not actually conduct the hearing.

Last week Commissioner Roger Goodell refused the union's request to recuse himself from hearing the appeal as the arbitrator. Goodell has authority under the CBA to handle cases that involve player discipline.
