When the NFL playoffs beging in two weeks the New England Patriots will get break after beating the New York Jets 17-16 and clinching a first round bye.It took Vince Wilfork to block a Jets field goal attempt with 5:21 to play in the game and a big first down run by Brandon Bolden with 1:55 left to secure the win. The Patriots offense which played without the services of Julien Edelman, Dan Connelly and Lagarrette Blount struggled all game to string sustained drives together as the Jets put constant pressure on Tom Brady.

Trailing 13-10 late in the third quarter Jonas Gray scored from one yard out to put the Pats in front. The Jets closed the gap to one on their next possession on a Nick Folk field goal and then intercepted Brady setting up the field goal try that was blocked by Wilfork.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick moved past Curly Lambeau into fourth on the all-time win list, and his team can clinch home field throughout the AFC playoffs with a Broncos loss to the Bengals on Monday night.
