Dustin Penner is the most prominent of three former UMaine Black Bear hockey players who remain NHL free agents in the middle of July. Tanner House and Brett Clark are also ex-Black Bears looking for NHL jobs.

Penner is coming off a big contract with the LA Kings that paid him over $3-million-dollars last season, according to capgeek.com. He played in 33 regular season games and 18 playoffs games for the Kings. He is now an UFA (unrestricted free agent). Penner played college hockey for UMaine from 2002-2004. He is now 30-years-old.

Tanner House played for UM for three seasons (2007-2011) and spent this past season with the Edmonton Oilers AHL team in Oklahoma City. House is now 27 and a free agent.

Brett Clark, a defenseman for UMaine back in the 1995-96 season, is now 36-years-old. He has played in the NHL for Atlanta, Montreal, Colorado, Tampa Bay and Minnesota. Clark is a UFA.
