As Red Sox pitching prospect Anthony Ranaudo pitched six more quality innings last night at Hadlock Field in Portland there were a couple of interested onlookers - Sox assistant GM's Mike Hazen and Allard Baird.

They saw Ranaudo give up just one earned run while scattering three hits and four strikeouts.

In 14 starts with Portland, Ranaudo is 7-2 with a 2.28 ERA. That ERA leads the Eastern League. Add in 86 strikeouts, just 27 walks, a WHIP of 0.97 and you may have the next call up to triple-A Pawtucket.

The Seadogs lost to Binghamton 3-0 and remained tied for second place in the east division with a 38-37 record.

*** Highly touted third base prospect Garin Cecchini made his Hadlock Field debut and went 2 for 4. Cecchini had been tearing up single-A pitching before getting promoted to the double-A Seadogs.
