NFL Scouts Will Look At UMaine Talent

It's pro day for UMaine football. This is the day NFL scouts come to Orono and put draft eligible Black Bear players through workouts. The players hope they can show enough talent to either get drafted or at least get a free agent tryout with NFL teams.

Wasilewski Named CAA Top Student Athlete

UMaine quarterback Marcus Wasilewski has been named the CAA Football Student-Athlete of the Year. The senior QB won the league's top academic award from a list 137 players earning spots on the CAA All Academic team.

UMaine quarterback Marcus Wasilewski is one of three Black Bear athletes to win a Dean Smith Award for academic excellence. Holly Stewart (UM field hockey) and Kelton Cullenberg (UM cross country/track) were also award winners.

The Maine Black Bear football team finishes the year as the #12 team in the country in the final Sports Network FCS nationwide poll. The Bears finished with a 10-3 record, losing in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

The North Dakota State Bison showed UNH and the rest of the nation why they are the two-time FCS national champs and a strong candidate to make it three in a row. The Bison spotted New Hampshire a 7-0 lead then went on to dominate the CAA Wildcats, scoring the next 52 points

The post season awards keep pouring in for UMaine football players and coaches. Senior DB Kendall James has been named a TSN(The Sports Network) first team all-american, Senior TE Justin Perillo named second team all-american and coach Jack Cosgrove wins the Gridiron Club of Boston coach the year. He has now won 4 awards for leading the Black Bears to a 10-3 record and a CAA title.

UMaine football coach Jack Cosgrove has finished third in voting for the Eddie Robinson FCS National Coach of the Year Award. North Dakota State's Craig Bohl is the winner, making him the only back to back winner in the 27 year history of the award.

The body of former UMaine and Kansas City Chief Jovan Belcher has been exhumed from a cemetery in New York at the request of his family. The family wants to know if CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) a brain disease caused by repeated head injuries.had an impact on what happened in Kansas City a year ago.

UNH,Towson Advance In FCS [VIDEO]

Remember a week ago UNH football ended UMaine's football season? Well, the Wildcats are still playing after going to Southeastern Louisiana and winning 20-17. UNH is headed to a first ever FCS semi-final against two time defending national champion North Dakota State. The Towson Tigers won their FCS quarterfinal so make it two of the four teams left standing for the CAA.
