Eric Steger played in his first Greater Bangor Open golf tournament and played it better than any other golfer. His 9-under par two day total (129) got him the victory and the $9,000 prize that comes with it.

The 47th GBO was shortened to just two days because of the Friday rain. Steger and Vermont pro Jesse Larson started the day tied with first round 63's.

Larson birdied the first two holes and held the lead most of the day. But when he double bogeyed the 14th hole his lead went away. Steger birdied the 16th to grab the lead for good.

Larson finished in second place at 7-under and collected $5.200.

Former Deer Isle-Stonington HS golfer Sam Grindle finished as top amateur in the GBO, shooting an outstanding 1-over score (139).
