The Ellsworth Eagles Boy's Basketball Team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 72-48 victory over the George Steven's Academy Eagles in a game played on Saturday, December 22 in Blue Hill. With the loss, GSA falls to 1-4 on the season.

Ellsworth Coach inserted freshman Bruce St. Peter in the starting line-up and that paid immediate dividends for Ellsworth, as St. Peter scored 10 of Ellsworth's first 13 points  and with 4:30 left in the 1st Quarter Ellsworth led 13-10.  With 3:20 left in the 1st Quarter Ellsworth's Brandon Braley hit 1 of 2 free throws, and Ellsworth led 16-12. With 2:27 left Griffin Nightingale shot was good, and hit a free throw, and Ellsworth led 21-12. At the buzzer, Nightingale hit a field goal, and Ellsworth led 25-18.

In the 2nd Quarter, GSA's Devon Coleman made 1 of 2 free throws, and the Ellsworth lead was 29-23. With 3:24 left Ben Eley missed the 1 and 1 free throw, and Ellsworth had a ten point lead, 33-23. With 2:10 left, Ellsworth's St. Peter took an inbound pass, kissed a shot off the glass but missed the free throw, and Ellsworth led 35-23. With 2 seconds left in the half, Ellsworth's Nick Bagley hit a three pointer, and the lead was 38-28 Ellsworth.

In the 3rd Quarter GSA cut the lead to 6 with 5:30 left 42-32, but Ellsworth went on a 8 point run, and with 3:09 left in the quarter, Ellsworth led 50-32. The quarter ended with Ellsworth leading 54-35.

In the 4th Quarter, Ellsworth emptied their bench, and the final was 72-48. GSA only had 7 active players as a result of illness and student issues, and many of the five played well in excess of 40 minutes.

Ellsworth is now off until Thursday December 27th when they travel up to Aroostook County to play the Caribou Vikings followed by a game Friday December 28th against the Presque Isle Wildcats.
