John Bapst Girls Fall to Ellsworth
To say that the Ellsworth Eagles Girls Basketball Team has had some lean years recently would be an understatement. They hadn’t won more than five games in a season since 2005, but that is changing and in a big way this winter! The Ellsworth Eagles beat John Bapst at Katsiaficas Gymnasium in Ellsworth, Saturday, January 5th 44-29 and are now 6-3 on the season.John Bapst falls to 1-7 for the winter.
Playing without guards Maddie Card and Sydni Palmer who are both injured, Ellsworth led at the end of the 1st Quarter 11-10. At half time it was 22-21 with the Eagles up 1 point over John Bapst. After 3 Quarters Ellsworth led 34-28 and then went on a 10-1 run in the 4th Quarter to put the game away with the final 44-29.
Ellsworth was led by Morgan Card with 19 points. Card was 4-11 from the field, 1-2 from 3 point land and 8-10 from the free throw line.Taylor White also had 9 points for Ellsworth. Jordan Turner was the leading scorer for the John Bapst Crusaders with 10 points going 2-6 from the field and 6-11 from the free throw line.
Ellsworth’s next game is Tuesday January 8th when they travel to East Machias to play the 3-2 Washington Academy Raiders in a game that will be heard on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio with the pre-game starting at 6:40 and the opening tip-off at 7 PM. John Bapst’s next game is Friday January 11 when they play host to the Ponies from Foxcroft Academy.
