Ellsworth Girls Defeat GSA 49-31

In the Battle of the Eagles, the Ellsworth Eagles defeated the George Steven’s Academy Eagles Monday, February 4th by the score of 49-31 in Blue Hill. The win kept Ellsworth’s hope alive of finishing in the Top 8 of Class B so they are able to host a prelim game on Tuesday, February 11th!

Ellsworth scored first when Morgan Card went 2-2 from the free throw line with 5:55 left in the 1st Quarter and led 2-0. Mary Prescott put GSA on the scoreboard, going 1-2 from the free throw line and then Ellsworth went on a 8-0 run. Emily Berry sank a 3 pointer , Morgan Card scored a basket and then Taylor White hit a basket and then went 1-2 from the free throw line and with 2:53 left in the 1st Quarter, Ellsworth led 10-1. Jennifer McKenney scored for GSA with 2:08 left then Ellsworth’s Maddie Card sank a 3 pointer with 1:20 left before GSA’s Charlotte Reiter threw up a shot at the buzzer and the 3 pointer went in. The score after the 1st Quarter was Ellsworth 15, GSA 6.

Ellsworth started the scoring in the 2nd Quarter when Emily Berry scored followed by Morgan Card, and with 6:41 left, Ellsworth led 19-6. GSA’s Mary Prescott went 2-2 from the free throw line before Ellsworth’s Taylor White scored and with 5:01 remaining in the half, Ellsworth led 21-8. McKenney scored for GSA and then Berry went 1-2 from the free throw line and it was 22-10 Ellsworth, with 3:31 remaining in the half. Ellsworth’s Morgan Card went 2-2 from the free throw line, and then with 2:38 remaining Victoria Woodward scored for GSA followed by Mary Prescott’s basket with 1:50 left and Ellsworth led GSA 24-14. Morgan Card  went 2-2 from the free throw line for Ellsworth and then Alice Dillon scored for GSA. The half ended when Ellsworth’s Hailee Langley went 2-2 from the free throw line and sank a basket and at the half, Ellsworth was up by 14 points. 30-16.

Langley got started where she finished in the 3rd Quarter scoring with 6:00 minutes left and Ellsworth was up 32-16. Alice Dillon converted 1-2 free throws for GSA and then Maddie Card sank a basket for Ellsworth followed by GSA’s Mary Prescott scoring 4 points on a basket and going 2-2 from the ffree throw line and with 3:45 left the lead was 15, 36-21. Ellsworth’s Maddie Dow answered going 1-2 from the free throw line, grabbing the rebound off the missed free throw and putting up a basket and with 3:33 left, Ellsworth led GSA by the score of 39-21. Morgan Card went 1-2 from the free throw line before Jennifer McKenney sank a basket with 5 seconds left for GSA and the 3rd Quarter ended with Ellsworth on top 40-23.

Maddie Card went 1-2 from the free throw line to start the scoring off for Ellsworth in the 4th Quarter and the score was 41-23 Ellsworth with 7:14 remaining. GSA’s Abby Ford went1-2 from the free throw line and Charlotte Reiter hit a 3 pointer and it was 41-27 Ellsworth with 5:20 remaining in the game. Taylor White scored for Ellsworth before GSA’s Abby Nowland scored with 4:18 left and the score was Ellsworth 43, GSA 29. Langley scored for Ellsworth and then Chelsea Beal drained two free throws for Ellsworth and it was 47-29 with 1:19 left. Andreanna Simmons scored for GSA and Annika Firestone capped off the scoring for Ellsworth with 2 seconds left and Ellsworth came away victorious 49-31.

Ellsworth improves to 11-6 and sits in 8th place in Class B. They play at MDI on Thursday, February 7th in a Breast Cancer Awareness night, with the tip-off starting at 7PM. That game will be on the WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio with the pregame starting at 6:15. GSA falls to 5-12 and plays at Central in East Corinth in their final game on Thursday February 7th.
