Former UMaine hockey player Spencer Abbott made his NHL debut over the weekend for the Toronto Maple Leafs but former UM player and current Leafs GM Dave Nonis didn't see much of the game.

The 47-year-old Nonis was feeling flu-like symptoms during the home opener night in Toronto. He got checked out by club doctors who then decided Nonis should get checked out at a hospital. Nonis was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon. Toronto newspapers are reporting that Nonis is now resting at his home.

Spencer Abbott got called up from the Leafs AHL team and played about five minutes during Toronto's shootout win over Ottawa. He had two shots on goal. Abbott was returned to the AHL club after the game.

A third UMaine connecton with the Maple Leafs in Greg Cronin - he is an assistant coach for Toronto.

The Leafs are off to a 3-0 start. The Bruins and Toronto do not meet until early November.
