In the first race of his last season of racing, Jeff Gordon wins the pole position for Sunday's Daytona 500. Jimmie Johnson will join him on the front row.

Gordon announced in the off season that 2015 would be his last year racing full time in the #24 car.

Gordon and Johnson won the controversial 'knockout' format used to determine the top two spots. For 56 years, single car qualifying was used to determine who had the fastest car.

The new format created accidents, complaints and perhaps most of all great publicity for NASCAR.

The Daytona 500 is considered the sport's biggest race of the year.
