MDI Boys Defeat Caribou 76-54
The MDI Trojans Boys team traveled up to Caribou on Friday, December 28th and came away with a 76-54 victory over the Caribou Vikings.
MDI got off to a quick start, leading Caribou 21-10 after the 1st Quarter. Ben Walls had 7 points including a 3 pointer, but picked up 2 fouls and was forced the bench. MDI received great play and minutes from Adam Gray, Woofie Kaiser and Andrew Davis in the 1st Quarter, in a game that was full of action and up and down scoring.
At the end of the 1st Half, Caribou had closed the lead to 7, as MDI led 31-24. Caribou had cut the lead to 5 at one point, as Cody Herbert for Caribou scored 9 points in the 2nd Quarter.
In the 3rd Quarter MDI came out firing. Jon Phelps hit 2 3 pointers and two free throws after he was intentionally fouled. MDI outscored Caribou 22-13 in the 3rd Quarter and after 3, MDI led 53-37.
Early in the 4th Quarter, MDI was on a 3-1 fast break when Jon Phelps pulled up and drained his third 3 pointer of the game. Phelps ended up with 17 points, while MDI’s Ben Walls had a game high 19. Caribou’s Coach Chris Casavant replaced four of his starting five with six minutes left. The final score was MDI 76-Caribou 54.
MDI improves to 3-1 on the season, while Caribou falls to 2-2. Both teams are in action Saturday morning at 11:30. MDI plays Presque Isle, while Caribou plays Ellsworth.
