MDI Girls Beat Caribou 66-36
The MDI Trojans Girls Basketball Team defeated Caribou 66-36 in a game played Friday December 28th in Caribou.
MDI raced out to a 3-0 lead when Sierra Myrick drained a 3 with 7:23 left in the 1st Quarter, and MDI never looked back. With 5:36 left in the 1st Quarter, Abby Jewett missed a shot, but got her own rebound and that shot was good, and MDI led 6-2. With 3:50 left in the 1st Quarter Emily Lewis stole the ball and had a easy lay-up and MDI led 10-5, and with 1.2 seconds left, Bailey Burr hit 1 of 2 free throws, and the 1st Quarter ended with MDI up 21-11.
In the 2nd Quarter MDI held Caribou to just 5 points, and using a 2-1-2 press, caused Caribou all sorts of difficulty bringing the ball up, and resulting in quite a few points off turnovers. Bailey Burr hit 2 free throws with 7:10 left in the 2nd Quarter and MDI led 25-11. Sierra Tapley hit 2 free throws with 6:32 left, and the MDI lead was 27-11. With 2:58 left Sarah Phelps missed the front end of a 1 and 1, but Hannah Shaw got the rebound and put the shot up and MDI led 31-16. The 1st Half ended with MDI leading 37-16.
In the 3rd Quarter with 6:36 left Sarah Phelps stole the ball, connected on the lay-up and was fouled, but missed the free throw, and MDI led 39-19. Hannah Shaw made 1 of 2 free throws with 4:04 left and the MDI lead was 45-21, and then MDI stole the ball and Hannah Shaw hit a jump shot and the Trojan lead was 47-21. With 2:46 left in the 3rd, and the MDI lead 53-21, Coach Barker replaced the entire five on the court.
The 4th Quarter was all MDI, and with 2:02 left, Sara Norberg hit her two free throws, and the score was 64-34 MDI. The final score was MDI 66 Caribou 36.
MDI improves to 5-0 on the season, and Caribou falls to 0-5. Both teams are in action Saturday morning December 29th at 10 AM. MDI takes on unbeated Presque Isle, while Caribou hosts Ellsworth.
