MDI Girls Beat Foxcroft Academy
The MDI Girls improved to 4-0 on the season with a 56-27 victory over the Foxcroft Academy Ponies in a game played Thursday, December 20th in Dover-Foxcroft. This game was originally scheduled to have been played on Tuesday the 18th, but had been postponed because of weather.
MDI came out cold in the 1st Quarter, and was held scoreless for the first 7:07. MDI was forcing passes, and missing shots. Coach Barker replaced the entire starting 5, and MDI finally was on the scoreboard with 53 seconds left when Sara Norberg drained a 3 pointer. Norberg hit another 3 with 5 seconds left, and at the end of the 1st Quarter Foxcroft Academy led 9-6.
In the 2nd Quarter Sierra Tapley’s bucket made the score 9-8 with 7:23 left, and Abby Jewett’s basket with 4:47 left in the 2nd had MDI tied for the lead for the first time all night, with the score 11-11. Amber Anderson hit two field goals, and sank two free throws in the 2nd for Foxcroft Academy, and at the end of the first half, the score was Foxcroft Academy 15 MDI 13.
In the 3rd Quarter MDI came out flying. With 7:23 left Emily Lewis shot was good, and after sinking her free throw, MDI had their first lead of the night, 16-15. With 6:05 left, Abby Jewett’s shot was good, and MDI had a lead 20-15, and MDI was on a 7-0 run causing a Foxcroft Academy timeout.
MDI continued their torrid scoring, and with 4:33 left in the 3rd, the Trojans led 28-17. Emily Lewis hit her 10 point of the game for MDI with 17 seconds left and MDI’s lead was 17, with the score 37-20 which was how the 3rd Quarter ended. MDI outscored Foxcroft Academy in the 3rd 24-5.
In the 4th Quarter with 6:08 left, Hannah Shaw scored a lay-up for MDI and the score was MDI 39-22. With 5:04 left in the game scored and was fouled and after sinking the free throw, MDI led by 20, 45-25. Hannah Shaw stole the ball and laid it up, and with 3:23 left in the game, MDI led 50-25. The final was 50-27
MDI is now off through Christmas, and will be back in action December 27-28, when they travel to Aroostook County to play Presque Isle on Thursday and Caribou on Friday.
