Former Bangor High School golfer Drew Powell played in his first USGA Championship Tournament over the weekend - the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship in Oregon.

Powell and his former teammate at Brown University, Chuck Isgar, qualified for the national event last fall. Powell transferred to Duke in January and now plays for the Blue Devils golf program.

The Powell / Isgar team shot a 2-under score through the weekend stroke play competition but missed the cut line to get into match play.

Four-ball golf is played by a team of two players who play their own shots and the best score on a hole is used as the team score.

Powell won the 2014 Maine Schoolboy championship. He's a two-time runner up for the Maine Junior Amateur Championship.

Last summer Powell finished fourth at the Maine Amateur Championship played at Belgrade Lakes GC and lost to Cole Anderson in the title round of the Maine State Match Play Championship.
