Purcell, Abbott Sign NHL Deals
Day one of the NHL free agency in 2016 was a good day for a couple of former UMaine Black Bears.
Teddy Purcell signed back with the Los Angeles Kings after playing for both the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers last year, scoring 14 goals and tallying 43 points. His contract is for one year at $1.6 million and previously played for the Kings during the 2007-08 through 2009-10 seasons.
Forward Spencer Abbott will also be heading back stateside after he agreed to terms with the Chicago Blackhawks on a one year deal. Abbott helped guide Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League to a title in the spring and had 14 goals and 21 assists. He last played in the NHL for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013-14, logging just one game.
