It’s time for you to help us decide again who should be the winner of this week’s McDonald’s High School Athlete of the Week.  We have six great weekly performances this week for you to choose from.

Austin Pelletier of Messalonskee High School excelled on the football field for the Eagles in the 36-33 win over Brewer.  He rushed for 256 yards in the Class B contest, along with two touchdowns runs of 33 yards each.  In addition to his prowess offensively, Pelletier also nabbed two interceptions in the contest on defense.  Messalonskee is now 4-2 on the season and will face Cony this week.

Senior Eliza Broughton of George Stevens Academy continued her impressive Cross Country season with a win at the Hancock County Championship this past weekend in Bucksport.  She won the event with a time of 19:14.98, a full minute and 19 seconds faster than the rest of the competition. Broughton finished 43rd overall in the Festival of Champions earlier in the month, as well as winning four other events at Ellsworth, Bucksport, Washington Academy, and Sumner.

Bangor High School soccer standout Garth Berenyi has been a force for the Rams all year long.  Over the past week, Berenyi scored a hat trick in the 4-2 victory against Mt Blue, and then notched the lone goal in the team’s 1-1 tie with Camden over the weekend.  On the year the Rams are 10-0-1 on the season and are currently in the top spot in Class A North, looking to defend their title.

Goalie Cassie Demers of Winslow posted two shutouts over the past week for the Black Raiders in a 3-0 win over Dexter and a 2-0 victory past Mount View.  Over the two wins, she posted six total saves and helped hand Dexter their first loss of the year.  During the 2017 season the Winslow side has surrendered just 6 goals in 12 totals games, including eight shutouts.

Michael Norton Jr tallied five total touchdowns in a 57-28 victory over John Bapst last week.  In addition to his three rushing TDs in the contest, he also contributed a 78-yard kickoff return for a score and return a fumble recovery for a 95-yard TD too.  On the year the Oceanside team is 4-2 and will play Winslow on Saturday.

Garrett Trask of Hermon High School had an impressive day rushing the ball in a 39-12 win over Belfast last weekend.  He ran the ball 12 times for 100 yards on the ground, while also finding the end zone for the Hawks on two separate occasions.  Hermon is now 4-2 on the year and will face Dexter this week.
