A controversial call at homeplate and too many runners left on base cost the Red Sox in game one of the day-night doubleheader. Final score Tampa Bay 2 Boston 1.

The Sox appeared to have the tying run score on a double by David Ortiz but Dustin Pedroia was ruled out. The umpires went to the review and apparently it was called too close to change the out call.

That play, plus 11 Red Sox runners left on base cost the Sox. Jake Peavy was a tough luck loser, although the winning run was walked in by Peavy.

Game two starts at 7pm...

UPDATE:  Going to the 9th....still 2-1 TB. Bradley, Pedroia, Victorino due up.

UPDATE:  Pedroia cut down at the plate on a Papi double to keep the score 2-1 TB...controversial call, umps looked at replay and upheld the out call...beware when hearing the phrase "the crew in New York will decide the call"...

UPDATE:  After 6 innings, TB leads Sox 2-1...Red Sox have left 8 men on the bases.

UPDATE:  Jake Peavy has control problems...walks in a run 2-1 TB in the 4th.

UPDATE:  TB's David DeJesus hits solo HR off Peavy in the 3rd...Game tied 1-1.

UPDATE:  Jonny Gomes drives in Dustin Pedroia from second base to make it 1-0 Sox after one inning. Pedroia had walked and went to second on a wild pitch. Sox left the bases loaded.
