Bangor golfer Jesse Speirs failed to make the cut in the first tournament of the year in the PGA Tour-China series.

Speirs earned a full season exemption on the China Tour after finishing 6th in the qualifying tournament last month.

Speirs shot 78 and 76 in the first two rounds of The Chengdu Championship and did not make the cut to play on the weekend.

Jeffrey Kang won the tournament, shooting an 8-under par 64 on the final round on Sunday.

Speirs and the rest of the field will tee it up again Thursday in the second event, The Chongqing Championship.

The PGA Tour-China is one of three PGA developmental tours( PGA Tour-LatinoAmerica, Mackenzie Tour-Canada) that leads to the Web.com Tour. For instance, the top five finishes on the PGA Tour-China earn full status on the Web.com Tour next year.

Speirs is a former winner of the Maine Junior Amateur Championship, the Maine State Amateur Championship and a winner of the Greater Bangor Open Golf Tournament.
