It seems like Steve Clifford is the right coach at the right time for the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats. The Mainer has got his Cats in the playoffs, maybe as high as sixth place. Not bad for his first year as NBA head coach.

Clifford played in college ball at UMaine Farmington, took his first coaching job as Woodland High School boys coach.

After spending time in the coaching ranks, Clifford spent 13 seasons as an NBA assistant coach under Jeff and Stan Van Gundy in NY, Houston and Orlando, as well as with the Lakers last year under Mike D'Antoni.

Clifford's Bobcats are one game over 500 at 39-38 and play Washington Wednesday night.

You can hear Steve Clifford talk about his first year as NBA head coach and the upcoming playoffs Wednesday on the Morning Pitch Show from 6am to 8am.
