Ryan talks about his new book, "Scribe" and his encounters with the likes of Celtics' greats Dave Cowens and Larry Bird. On Bird, Ryan said it would be a mistake to think of Bird as the "Hick from French Lick."

"That was just a little phrase that had a resonance to it," Ryan said. "He was the smartest player that we ever saw."
