Jimmy Howard made 38 saves and Gustav Nyquist had a goal and two assists as the Detroit Red Wings triumphed over the Boston Bruins, 4-2, at TD Garden on Saturday.

Frans Nielsen broke a 2-2 tie at 11:53 of the third period with his first goal of the season, a tip-in from the left circle off a Danny DeKeyser shot from the left point.

Gustav Nyquist added a goal, an empty-netter at 19:33 for the 4-2 final, and two assists.

Tyler Bertuzzi and Dylan Larkin chipped in a goal apiece for Detroit, while David Backes and Ryan Donato scored for Boston.

It was Detroit's first road win against the Bruins in five years, a stretch that included nine regular season losses for the Red Wings at TD Garden.

The Bruins will look to rebound Tuesday against the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center.
