The NHL's dean of discipline, Brendan Shanahan, is the new president of the Toronto Maple Leafs. What does that mean for Dave Nonis, the former UMaine Black Bear captain and current Leafs general manager?

According to reports out of Toronto Nonis is safe and that Shanahan and Nonis have already talked about working together.

Nonis took over as Toronto GM just days before the season started last year - remember the season began late because of the lockout.

The Leafs were beaten by the Bruins in the first round of the playoffs. This season, Toronto missed the playoffs and changing at coming.

Shanahan is the first one. A former Stanley Cup champion player with Detroit, Shanahan is best known for handing out suspensions and fines to players as the NHL chief of safety.

Leafs head coach Randy Carlisle could be in trouble.

And if so, what happens to a guy like former UMaine coach Greg Cronin. He has been an assistant coach with Toronto since 2011.
