New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman may have prevented a school shooting in Michigan.

Edelman, while visiting former Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola in Texas in late March, was notified that someone had posted a threatening message on his Instagram account.

Edelman notified his assistant, who searched through hundreds of comments that followed Edelman’s most recent Instagram post. She found an alarming message that read: "I'm going to shoot my school up watch the news."

The assistant notified police, who traced the message to a 14-year-old boy in Port Huron, Michigan.

After police arrived at the house where the message originated, police say the boy admitted to posting the threat. Two rifles that belonged to the boy's mother were found inside the home.

The boy was taken to a juvenile-detention center, where he remained Thursday morning. He was charged with making a false report of a threat of terrorism, a felony punishable by up to four years in jail.

Police said the boy’s threat was aimed at the middle school he attends in a nearby township.
