The Boston Red Sox lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday afternoon, March 14th in Spring Training action, 3-1. It was the Red Sox's 5th consecutive loss.

Joe Kelly was impressive starting for the Red Sox, pitching 4 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits, 1 walk and striking out 3. Brian Johnson took the loss, as he came in to pitch in the 6th inning, and allowed 3 earned runs on 4 hits, and didn't retire a batter before he was pulled.

Pablo Sandoval was 2-3 and hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 2nd inning for the Red Sox's lone run. Dustin Pedroia was 2-2 with a pair of doubles, David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez were each 1-3.

Former Red Sox pitcher Daniel Bard pitched the 9th inning to record his 1st save of the Spring for the Pittsburgh Pirates

The Red Sox play the Yankees on Tuesday, March 15th in their next Spring Training game
