The Red Sox have kicked in an option clause that keeps John Farrell as manager through the 2018 season. That was the Sox big news on day one of the MLB Winter Meetings.

After two straight last place finishes, Farrell's Sox won the AL East with 93 wins. He now is 339-309 in four seasons as Sox manager.

Meanwhile, former Red Sox pitcher Rich Hill hit the jackpot today, signing a 3-year, $48-million-dollar deal at age 37.
