The good news for former UMaine running back Montell Owens - the Detroit Lions are keeping him on their 53-man roster. The bad news - he is headed to the injured reserve list. Jerron McMillian and Mike DeVito are all set with NFL jobs.

The Lions signed Owens in the off-season after the Jaguars released him. Owens had been a pro bowl special teams player in Jacksonville and back up running back.

You may remember Owens injured his knee during that pre-season game against the Patriots and has not played since.

The Lions can put Owens on the short term IR on Tuesday and at that time can replace that roster spot with another player.

And Jerron McMillian will begin his second season the Green Bay Packers. He played in all 16 Packers games as a rookie last year.
