After receiving a retirement gift from the Detroit Tigers, David Ortiz then went out and beat the Tigers one more time. A 5th inning 2-run blast proved to be the game winning hit in the Red Sox 3-2 victory Saturday night.

It was Big Papi's 29th homer. He is hitting .321 with 97 after last night's three hit game.

The game was played with two rain delays - one at the start of the night, the other delay after the 5th inning. That delay ended the night for starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz who pitched well, one run on just four hits. He got credit for the win.

The shaky bullpen held together enough to get the final 12 outs. Heath Hembree, Brad Ziegler, Matt Barnes and Craig Kimbrel combined to allow just one run.

The win is the 8th in the last nine games for the Sox who remain a half game out of first place in the AL East.

NOTE: The Sox will start lefty Henry Owens today instead of Eduardo Rodriguez. E-Rod is still feeling some tightness from a hamstring injury that forced him to leave his last start.
