92.9 TheTicket and Hero's Sports & Entertainment Center are teaming up to recognize those in Eastern Maine who have made a difference through their volunteerism in community sports with the first annual presentation of the SPORTS HERO'S AWARD

Do you know someone deserving of special recognition because of their sports volunteering efforts in your community? A coach, a scorer or timer, maybe a game official or grounds crew worker. Perhaps someone in your community volunteers time clearing that hiking trail or grooming the snowmobile trail.

You can nominate this special person for a SPORTS HERO'S AWARD. Nomination deadline is Friday October 4th, 2013. [Submissions for this contest are closed.]

Winners will be honored at a special luncheon at Hero's Sports Grill on October 29th. Your organization will also receive a special fundraiser day at Hero's.

Here are some frequently asked questions:

Who Can Receive an Award?

  • Any citizen in eastern Maine who has made a positive contribution to a community sports organization through their volunteer efforts. Examples include volunteers who coach, ground crew worker, scorer/timer, game official, fundraiser.

How Do I Nominate Someone?

  • Fill out the nomination form at the bottom of this post.
  • Anyone, except 92.9TheTicket and Hero’s Sports Grill employees, can submit a nomination.

Selection Process & Awards Info?

  • A select committee of will review all nominations and will award three winners.
  • AWARD WINNERS AND THEIR FAMILY/FRIENDS WILL BE INVITED TO A LUNCHEON AT HERO'S SPORTS GRILL ON OCTOBER 29TH, 2013.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

DENNIS KIAH: Retired Brewer HS athletic administrator. Former teacher and coach at Foxcroft Academy and Brewer. NIAAA State Award of Merit. KVAC Distinguished Service Award.

LEE SPERONIS: Director of Husson University School of Sport, Hospitality and Tourism Management. Husson University assistant softball coach.

MARY CADY: Long time PVC HS track and field director. Former Orono HS golf coach and UMaine Fogler librarian.

BETH STAPLES: 92.9TheTicket basketball and softball broadcast analyst. Former Colby College softball player and UMaine softball assistant coach. Coached girls varsity basketball at Searsport HS and Mt.View HS. Current news writer of UMaine Division of Marketing and Communications.

MATT MULLIGAN: Tight end for NFL’s New England Patriots. Played high school sports at Penobscot Valley HS in Howland. Former member of the UMaine Black Bear football team.

BOB DUCHESNE: Host of 92.9TheTicket outdoors show “Wild Maine”. Operates a Maine Birding Guide business, outdoor enthusiast. Former member of the Maine legislature serving the Hudson area.
