UMaine redshirt freshman linebacker Christophe Mulumba has been added to a list of FCS players to be considered for the Jerry Rice Award - a national award given to the best freshman at the FCS level.

Mulumba (Montreal,Quebec) is a 6-1 230 linebacker for the (5-1) Black Bears. Through the first six games he has 47 total tackles/13 solo, 1.5 sacks and 2 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery. Mulumba has been named CAA rookie-of-the-week twice this season.

The Jerry Rice Award is named after former San Francisco 49'ers great wide receiver. Rice played his college football at Mississippi Valley State, a FCS school (then called Division 1-AA).

The Sports Network releases a 20-player "watch list" that includes players from all over the nation. Mulumba is one of five linebackers on the initial "watch list".

The Jerry Rice Award winner will be announced December 16th.
