Giancarlo Stanton hit two home runs and Aaron Judge drove in the winning run with a basehit as the New York Yankees edged the Red Sox 3-2 last.

It was the first of three games in the series and the victoy for the Yanks puts them in a tie for first place in the AL East.

Stanton blasted two solo homers, one to leftfield and one to rightfield early in the game.

The Red Sox fought back to tie the game on RBI hits from Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi.

After a quality outing from Drew Pomeranz, it was the Sox bullpen that did them in. Heath Hembree gave up a hit, walked two and balked. Joe Kelly came on to give up the game winning hit to Judge.

The Yankee bullpen did its job and shut down the Sox after starter Luis Severino had struck out 11 batters.

Both teams now 25-10.
