The Boston Bruins had the 30th pick in the NHL Draft Friday night and selected 18-year-old forward John Beecher, from the U.S. Development Program and a University of Michigan recruit.

Beecher is a big 6-foot-3, 209 pound center from western New York.

He was part of the USA World Juniors Team that won a bronze medal at the World Championships in December. Beecher had three goals and an assist in seven games.

With Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Charlie Coyle and Sean Karaly the B's have some depth in the middle. That means the team can let Beecher grow his game for a couple of years.

The NHL Draft continues today with the Bruins holding draft picks in rounds three, five, six and seven.
