Former New England Patriot tight end Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his jail cell of an apparent suicide in the early hours of Wednesday morning.


The Department of Correction in Massachusetts discovered Aaron Hernandez shortly after 3 a.m. and said that he hanged himself with bed sheets with use of the window in his cell at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center.  The statement also said that he tried to barricade the door with items from his cell.

He was officially declared dead at 4:07 a.m. by hospital officials at UMass Leominster Medical Center at the age of 27.

The New England Patriots, who are scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House today, are still planning on attending the event.
