Dustin Pedroia had off-season surgery to repair his left knee Wednesday and will likely miss the start of the 2018 season.

Red Sox reported that Pedroia could miss seven months because of the surgery and would likely miss the first few months of the year with a tentative return date of May 2018.

The second baseman was dealing with an injury for the majority of the 2017 season and had two different stints on the disabled list for the Sox.  Pedroia hit seven home runs and 62 RBIs with a .293 average.

With the news, the Sox will likely look for another second baseman and may look to resign Eduardo Nunez.  Nunez hit .308 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs for the Sox after being traded to the team in 38 games.
